We have ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC news to share with you about last night and one of our most successful accomplishments as an organization to date!
Thanks to your efforts and others with Friends of the Fire Rings we had a HUGE victory at the Newport Beach City Council meeting last night!!
Believe it or not……We are one big step closer now to have wood fire rings permanently preserved in Newport Beach!!!
The new city council voted 5 – 2 to begin the process of permanent plan to allow all 60 wood-burning fire rings to come back to Newport Beach. Once the plan is –approved by the California Coastal Commission in March or April 2015 – we will ALL be able to enjoy the fire rings once again!
The new city council also approved an interim plan. This short-term plan allows wood-burning in some of the existing fire rings effective immediately. The interim plan will only be in place until the permanent plan has been finalized and approved by the Coastal Commission . Needless to say, we will be working hard on this final stretch to get the permanent plan finally approved!
A special “THANK YOU” to Councilmembers Scott Peotter, Duffy Duffield, Kevin Muldoon, Tony Petros, and Mayor Ed Selich – the 5 councilmembers who voted FOR the Fire Rings at last night’s City Council meeting (the 2 votes AGAINST saving the fire rings were cast by Councilmembers Keith Curry and Diane Dixon).
Again – thanks to those of you who attended last night, and thanks to those of you that sent emails to the city councilmembers.
Please post a comment celebrating last night’s victory! Also – please pass the news along to friends by posting on Facebook or Twitter about Friends of the Fire Rings (a 501c4 non-profit organization) and moving one step closer to finally saving the fire rings for years to come.
We still have work to do with the California Coastal Commission! Some of our leaders of Friends of the Fire Rings will be traveling within the state to meet one-on-one with the Coastal Commissioners and the CA Coastal Commission staff.
Last night’s victory was one of the most significant steps forward in the past 2 years! By working together as a team– we were successful! Thanks again to everyone involved with Friends of the Fire Rings!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
